The Carlsbad Friends of the Arts is best known for its major, ongoing support of the popular TGIF Concerts in the Parks summer concert series. Have you been to one of these great concerts? Then you’ve probably bought your favorite colored tickets from one of our great volunteers, hoping to have your ticket selected in the drawing that take place at intermission. Maybe you’ve even won one of the fantastic prizes! The prizes are donated by businesses throughout Carlsbad and its environs, and all of the money that is raised goes directly back to the Arts Office. Talk about “win-win” – it’s a wonderful situation for everyone, and it benefits you, your families, your neighbors and all of us in the Carlsbad region.
But the fun doesn’t end at TGIF… We support a variety of other exciting events that the Arts Office puts on throughout the year so that anyone, at any age, can get involved with the arts. Other programs we help make possible:
- “Art at TGIF” provides hands-on visual art activities for the children who come to the TGIF concerts.
- “Family Open Studios” offer hands-on art-making workshops for all ages, led by artist instructors; the art projects relate to the current exhibition on display at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
- “Three-Part-Art” is a nationally recognized art education program for third- and fourth-graders. Teachers work from the innovative curriculum materials the Arts Office provides, then the children visit the Gallery where they explore original works of art in the exhibition and work on a related, hands-on art activity. We know that children learn best by doing, and the Arts Office helps provide those learning opportunities.
- The Friends of the Arts also sponsor the special opening receptions for each new exhibition presented at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery.
